Seine Hauptarbeitszeit fällt mit dem tiefsten Verfall der vogtländischen
Geigenmacherei zusammen. Es wurden damals nur ganz geringwerthige Geigen
gemacht, und so beschränkte auch er sich lediglich darauf, die billigsten Dutzendgeigen
herzustellen. Seine beiden Söhne Carl Gottlob und August wurden gleichfalls Geigenmacher.
