Brother of Johann Conrad. Worked in Neukirchen. He was a pupil of Stainer and copied his pattern, but his work is rough, and he used red-brown varnish of poor quality. Label : ” Johann Gottfried Reichel . . . arfunden von Jacob Stainer in Apsam.”

Er wurde 1751 Meister und wird als Geigenmacherssohn bezeichnet. Vielleicht der beste Geigenmacher aus seiner Familie. Er schrieb in seine Geigen, dass sie von Jacob Stainer erfunden seien, doch kannte er schwerlich eine Originalarbeit. Reichel’s Geigen können nur als sehr oberflächliche Stainer-Copien gelten und haben mageren, rothbraunen Lack.
