Ursprünglich Musiker, diente er mehrere Jahre als Hautboist im 7. bayr. Inf.-Regt. und widmete sich dann dem Instrumentenbau, den er in Markneukirchen, Siebenbrunn i. S., in Graslitz, Schönbach, Steingrub i. B., in Mittenwald und Mirecourt gründlich erlernte. Er macht hauptsächlich Streichquartette und wird von den Mitgliedern des Bayreuther Festspiel-Orchesters seiner Tüchtigkeit wegen gelobt.
