SCHUNDA, Wenzel Josef Born 1845 Dubec, Prague Czech Republic, died 1923 Budapest Hungary. Brother, pupil, and successor of Josef Schunda, above. Worked briefly for J. Kulik. Joined the Schunda company 1856; director from 1867 and sole proprietor from 1871. Enlarged it into a wide commercial business producing Hungarian traditional instruments amongst many others. Employed a great many Hungarian luthiers and bow makers, including A. Mönnig. O. K. Zimmer, P. Pilat, and R. Laumann. Gold medal at Paris world Fair 1900. [Benedek]

Schüler seines Bruders Josef, der ihn, da er selbst kinderlos war, 1856 bei sich aufnahm. Nach siebenjähriger Lehrzeit wurde er Geselle; drei Jahre ging er zu seiner Vervollkommnung auf Reisen, wurde 1868 Theilhaber und 1871 alleiniger Inhaber der Firma, die zwar auch sehr gute Streichinstrumente herstellt, ihr Hauptverdienst aber auf dem Gebiete des Cymbalbaus hat. 1900 war er Mitglied der Ausstellungsjury in Paris.
