Joseph Hermann Born circa. 1682, died 1765 Günzberg Germany. Senior member of this extensive family of violin makers. His own work is little known. Am 23. Nov. 1705 heirathete er Marie Stadler und ging am 19. Oct. 1716 eine zweite Ehe mit Magdalena Miller ein. Eine Geige mit der Bezeichnung »H. J. Stofs, Tirol« führt das N. Selhof’sche Auctionsverzeichniss auf. Dieser Stoss ist wohl als der Stammvater der Familie zu betrachten.
