TÓTH, Teréz Born 1902 Debrecen Hungary, d. after 1962 Rome Italy. Daughter and pupil of János Tóth, above. Studied the violin at Budapest Conservatoire but took up violin making under her father’s instruction from 1916. Awarded prizes in Venice and Budapest. Moved to Rome 1936 and remained active there until c.1962. Over 50 instruments completed on Stradivari and Guarneri models, much in her father’s style. Accurate work and fine craftsmanship, with rich orange oil varnish. Well regarded as a restorer and repairer.
