Trained as an engineer before establishing a violin business in Kansas City in 1948. Stradivari and Guarneri models and copies of individual master instruments. Used a potassium silicate sealer inside and out and his own preparation of oil varnish, shaded and antiqued. Credited with over 350 instruments: violins, violas, cellos, basses, and some guitars, often made as quartets; these have his family coat-of-arms emblazoned on the back. [Wenberg]
