WEIDLICH, Oswald Born 1864 Markneukirchen Germany, died 1907 Budapest Hungary. Pupil of H. Gläsel. Later worked for L. Otto in Düsseldorf. Established in Budapest 1886 with his brother Anton Ernst, a wind instrument maker. Later worked alone in Soroksári Street, then at 9 Kecskeméti Street 1892-1896, assisted by L. Bohák. Gold medal awarded for a quartet in Paris 1900. Fine work on Stradivari-derived model but with distinctive scroll, possibly inspired by the Guarneri del Gesù 1743 ‘Cannone’ violin that belonged to Paganini. Golden-yellow to dark brown varnish. Interior work neatly done in willow and linings fully morticed. Branded internally: ‘Weidlich Budapest’ [Benedek]
Willibald Leo Lütgendorff+
Sohn eines Blechinstrumentenmachers, Schüler von Heinrich Gläsel. Nachdem er bei Otto in Düsseldorf gearbeitet hatte, siedelte er um 1886 nach Budapest über, wo er sich mit seinem Bruder Anton (Holzblasinstrumentenmacher) verband und selbstständig machte. Er besitzt mehrere goldene Medaillen und war auf der Pariser Weltausstellung 1900 mit einem Streichquartett nach Stradivari gut vertreten.
