Son of John White, below, active from 1825. Moved to Boston 1829. Established independently 1835 and joined by his brother Asa 1849. From 1863 worked on his own in Malden and Melrose. Early work on personal model with archaic wedge fingerboard. Copies of his own Stradivari from 1851; Amati model int\u{2026} — John Dilworth

WHITE, Ira Johnson Born 1813 Barre, died 1895 Melrose, Massachusetts USA. Son of John White, below, active from 1825. Moved to Boston 1829. Established independently 1835 and joined by his brother Asa 1849. From 1863 worked on his own in Malden and Melrose. Early work on personal model with archaic wedge fingerboard. Copies of his own Stradivari from 1851; Amati model introduced in 1864. Fine work with good local materials and golden-orange varnish.
