Worked in Vienna 1770-1780, returning to Brno to take over Hentschel’s workshop at 6 Mecové ulici after his death in 1782. WUTZELHOFFER (WUZELHOFER), Sebastian (II) Born 1754 Wöllensdorf Austria, died 1807 Brno Czech Republic. Son of Sebastian Wutzelhoffer (I), above. Came to Brno with his father c.1756-1757. Studied with J. J. Hentschel. Worked in Vienna 1770-1780, returning to Brno to take over Hentschel’s workshop at 6 Mecové ulici after his death in 1782. Distinctly Guarnerian model although with medium high arch and deep edge channel. Regarded as the best varnisher of the Brno school, with various shades of oil varnish. Willibald Leo Lütgendorff+
Er wurde als »incorporierter Lauten- und Geigenmacher« am 3. Mai 1782 Bürger von Brünn und wohnte in der hinteren Rathhausgasse No. 228 (jetzt Schwertgasse No. 8), und zwar noch 1806. Das Haus gehörte ursprünglich der Wittwe des Geigenmachers Hentschl. Im Jahre 1827 ist Sebastian’s Wittwe Anna Besitzerin des Hauses. Wutzelhofer war demnach der Nachfolger Hentschl’s und vielleicht auch dessen Schüler. Er steht als tüchtiger Meister in gutem Andenken.
