He followed the lines of Stradivari, but it cannot be said that he made one copy of the maestro. There is a sort of general resemblance to the Strad outline and arching, and that is all. The workmanship is fairly good, and the tone of mediocre quality. Label, handwritten : —

Ein in vielen Kunstfertigkeiten gewandter Mann. Er hat mehrere hundert Geigen gemacht, als sein Meisterstück betrachtete er eine Copie der »Messias« von Stradivari, die er nur nach dem Augenmaass machen musste, da der Eigenthümer sie ihm nicht anvertrauen wollte. Arbeit und Lack sind sehr lobenswerth.
