DE ZORZI, Valentino Born 1837 Vittorio, died 1916 Florence Italy. Self-taught. Opened a shop in Pistoia in 1880, having previously been fighting with Garibaldi’s forces before working as a blacksmith and armourer in Bologna. Commissioned to build his first violin by Count Vieri Ganucci Cancellieri in Pistoia. Moved to Florence 1885, working in via del Corso in collaboration with Silvio Paoletti, who later succeeded to the business. Violins on his own model, and those of Stradivari and Stainer. Also produced many other types of plucked instrument. Violin in the Cherubini Museum, Florence, labelled: Valentinus De Zorzi / Cenetensi Venetum fecit / Florentiae A 1980. no. 7 / Credo questo sia perfezionionato [Vannes]
Willibald Leo Lütgendorff+
Erlernte autodidaktisch den Geigenbau, arbeitete stets in Italien, eröffnete
seine eigene Werkstatt in Pastoja 1880 und verlegte diese vor 1885 noch nach
Florenz, wo er zu Ansehen kam. Er baut nach eigenem Modell, strebt aber den grossen Vorbildern nach und besitzt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen. Er ist auch Erfinder einer Harfenguittare (18 Saiten mit 5 Octaven, der Archilaute verwandt).
