The style is a mixture of German and Italian, the former preponderating. The sound-hole is an imitation of that of Stainer. His Violoncellos are among his best instruments.

Working in Ferrara in 1780. His instruments are made both on German and Italian patterns, the sound-holes are like those of Stainer. His violoncellos are among his best instruments.

Mehrere gute Violoncelli von ihm sind in letzter Zeit aufgetaucht, und da
Manches in seiner Arbeit an deutsche Art erinnert — so sind z. B. seine
F-Löcher denen Stainer’s recht ähnlich —, hält man ihn für einen Südtyroler.
Ich glaube aber, dass er als Geselle in Tyrol oder Deutschland gearbeitet hat,
denn das Italienische in seinen Werken hat doch das Übergewicht. Viorillo
zu schreiben ist falsch.
