The Voller Brothers

The Voller Brothers, William (1854), Alfred (1856) and Charles (1865), were craftsmen who worked in London from 1885 to 1927. They are best known for their imitations of fine violins.

The Voller Brothers are considered to be some of the greatest copyists of all time.

In 1892 they began working for George Hart in London creating accurate copies of instruments that passed through Hart’s shop. All of these instruments were accurately labelled as copies.

Later they set up independently and created numerous copies of lesser-known makers as well as some convincing imitations of more prestigious makers.

Unfortunately, at times The Voller Brothers exploited their skills, and with the help of dealers fraudulently sold instruments that they had made as the works of other makers.

In recent times the work of The Voller Brothers has become highly collectible, their skill as makers has now overtaken their past reputation. The Voller Brothers are considered to be some of the finest makers of the 19th century.
