Luigi Salsedo
Luigi Salsedo is a trade name associated with violins marketed in Britain during the 1920s and 1930s. Current research suggests that instruments bearing the Salsedo label were produced in Central European workshops, imported unfinished by the Scottish dealer James (“Jim”) Tait, and subsequently varnished, labelled, and sold under an Italian identity. Although long regarded as Italian trade instruments, they are now generally understood to represent a carefully marketed workshop brand rather than the work of a single identifiable maker. Salsedo-labelled instruments are noted for their high standard of workmanship and playing qualities.
