Lucien L’Humbert

L’HUMBERT, Lucien (1880–1956) French violin maker of the Mirecourt school.

Maker Overview

Life

Born in Mirecourt, he was trained in the local violin-making tradition and worked during the first half of the twentieth century as both a maker and restorer. He produced violins, violas and cellos, generally following Stradivari models, with careful workmanship, well-shaped arching and warm golden to reddish-brown varnish. His work represents the better class of Mirecourt making of the period and is valued for its sound craftsmanship and tonal qualities.
