HARMAND, Charles Nicolas (1826–1871)

Maker Overview

Life

French bow maker of the Mirecourt school. Son and pupil of Nicolas Joseph Harmand, he continued the family tradition of bow making during the nineteenth century. After a period of military service, he worked in Paris, likely with J. R. Lafleur. His surviving output is small but of fine quality, showing the influence of the Adam school and the refined workmanship of French bow making of the period. His bows are rare and appreciated for their craftsmanship and historical importance.
