Nicolas Auguste Eugène Maline

MALINE, Nicolas Auguste Eugène (1855–1920)

Maker Overview

Life

French bow maker of the Mirecourt school. Son and pupil of Nicolas Maline, he assisted his father from around 1870 and continued the family workshop after 1877. His early bows followed his father’s style, influenced by the Peccatte and Vuillaume traditions, while later work showed the influence of Charles Nicolas Bazin. In 1906 he joined the Cuniot-Hury workshop, producing bows under the name “Pierre Maline”. His bows represent the later continuation of one of the important nineteenth-century French bow-making families.
