Nachdem er das Gymnasium besucht hatte, wurde er Schüler von Schünemann
in Schwerin, bei den er vier Jahre lernte. Darauf war er drei Jahre lang
Gehilfe bei Möckel in Berlin und machte sich dann in Hamburg selbstständig.
Am 1. März 1902 übernahm er die Werkstatt und das Geschäft von F. A. Pfab.
Möckel gab ihm ein vortreffliches Zeugniss als Geigenmacher.
