Er soll zuerst in Reiterndorf (Gemeinde Ischl) gelebt haben und stammt wahrscheinlich aus Goisern oder Ramsau, das nur 1 ½ Wegstunden von Ischl entfernt liegt. Alte Leute erinnern sich noch heute, dass Johann Keffer als ein genialer Mann galt, seine Geigen haben einen
grossen, vollen Ton, wenn sie auch nicht schon im Model1 und im Lack sind.
