Willibald Leo Lütgendorff+
Sohn des Tischlermeisters Fr. Krell, ursprünglich Musiker, Schüler des
Musikdirectors Wenge in Kelbra. Schon mit 16 Jahren ging er nach Amerika,
wo er sich dem Geigenmachen zuwandte und darin bald Erfolge erzielte. Er
ist neben den beiden älteren Gemünder und E. J. Albert der bekannteste
amerikanische Geigenmacher seiner Zeit gewesen.
Bekannt sind auch seine für Concertmeister Henry Schradieck ausgeführten Versuche mit dem Holze der canadischen Balsamfichte. Seine Arbeit war allerdings nicht hervorragend, meistens zu dick im Holz und schwerfällig.
