William Meredith Morris+
He is an excellent amateur maker who has made and restored a large number of instruments. He follows the Joseph, Strad, and Maggini models. One violin which I examined was made on the Strad model with plates graduated after a Maggini instrument. The tone was large, rich, and free. He uses the Rev. Gordon Palmer’s varnish, which he believes to be the best in the market. Label : —

Nachdem er Jahre lang Postmeister in Biggar (Schottland) gewesen war,
verlegte er sich auf das Geigenmachen und hatte darin grossen Erfolg. Er kam
in den Besitz des gesammten Geigenholzes, das Alexander Miller hinterliess, und
konnte somit nur schönes, altes Holz verarbeiten. Seine Violinen sind mit Geschick nach den Modellen von Stradivari, Guarneri und Amati gemacht und klingen gut.
