John Dilworth

MANDELLI, Camillo Born 1873 Calco, Como, died 1956 Sesto San Giovanni, Milan Italy. Known as ‘Camillo da Calco’. Pupil of Bisiach and Antoniazzi. Established in Buenos Aires 1889-1920, subsequently returning to Calco. Moved finally to Sesto San Giovanni in 1936. Good work in the Antoniazzi style. Fine materials and varnish of red-brown and golden red tints. Cellos and double basses with carved backs particularly successful. Rubber stamped and signed internally. Printed labels: ‘fidibus, fide, fidis’ / Camillo da Calco / fece Anno 1928 ‘fidibus, fide, fidis’ / Camillus Calcensis fecit / Anno Domini 1932
