Son of Peter Milne, below. Established in Aberdeen from 1896, initially at 11 Windmill Brae, after 1898 at 10 Back Street and after 1812 in Guild Street. Moved to Glasgow 1920. MILNE, Patrick Gordon Born 1873, Worked from 1896 Aberdeen, died 1949 Glasgow, Scotland UK. Son of Peter Milne, below. Established in Aberdeen from 1896, initially at 11 Windmill Brae, after 1898 at 10 Back Street and after 1812 in Guild Street. Moved to Glasgow 1920. Credited with about 70 instruments, some imported in the white and varnished by him. Inconsistent work, some on good Cremonese models with fine materials, but with a dark, thick and often deeply crazed oil varnish. Others have various shades and qualities of spirit varnish. Continued to use his Aberdeen label after moving to Glasgow, merely striking out ‘Aberdeen’ and inserting ‘Glasgow’ by hand. Branded on lower rib. Made by / Patrick G. Milne / Aberdeen 19.. [Rattray]
William Meredith Morris+
He was born at Aberdeen, on Jan. 30, 1873. He follows the usual models, and has made about thirty violins, besides repairing a large number. He uses both oil and spirit varnishes ; colours : orange, light and dark brown, and dark red. The workmanship is much above average, and the tone fairly good. He repairs very neatly, and has done considerable work now and again for some of the London houses.
