NIEDT, Karl Born 1872 Schweinfurt, died 1950 Würzburg Germany. Pupil of E. F. Reichel in Markneukirchen from 1887. Established independently in Würzburg from 1897. Prolific maker. Early work consists of unrefined copies of usual Tyrolean and Italian models, but gradually refined his production towards Vuillaume-like copies of Stradivari and Guarneri, with shaded varnish. Schüler von Ernst Friedr. Reichel in Markneukirchen. Nach seiner von
1887—1897 währenden Lehr- und Wanderzeit eröffnete er am 1. Sept. 1897 in
Würzburg sein eigenes Geschäft als Geigenmacher. Auf Verlangen copirt er
jeden Meister, arbeitet aber sonst stets nach einem eigenen Modell, das durch
starke Schweifung in der Breite und breite Brust von anderen Modellen abweicht.
Bisher verwendete er mit Vorliebe gelbrothen Bernsteinlack.
