after 1811 Venice Italy. Son of Zuanne Ongaro, below. Succeeded to his father’s shop in the Calle dei Stagneri 1780. Took at least one apprentice, Vincenzo Frezoseli, in 1783. ONGARO, Ignazio Born 1741, d. after 1811 Venice Italy. Son of Zuanne Ongaro, below. Succeeded to his father’s shop in the Calle dei Stagneri 1780. Took at least one apprentice, Vincenzo Frezoseli, in 1783. By 1806 the workshop was closed and in 1811 Ongaro was reported as a beggar in the parish of San Polo. A double bass attributed to him is characteristic of the late Venice school, with dark red varnish, poorly governed outline, soundholes of Brescian style, and a distinctive head with small eye, extended last turn, and very flared volutes.
