John Dilworth
ADAM, Jean (II) Born 1823, died 1869 Mirecourt France. Bow maker. Known as ‘Grand Adam’. Son and pupil of Jean Dominique. Worked for J. B. Vuillaume in Paris 1842-1853 where he came under the influence of C. J. Fonclause and made classical Tourte models. Returned to Mirecourt where he produced very fine bows in his own workshop. One of the finest and most distinctive of the great 19th century French bow makers. Branded: ADAM. Many 20th century German factory bows bear a similar mark. [Millant/Raffin]
