James first started handling fine stringed instruments when he joined the Musical Instrument Department at Bonhams, London. He continued to gain experience in the stringed instrument world working for the prominent London dealer, Peter Biddulph, after which he ran Christie’s Music Department. James was a founding director of Brompton’s and left in 2012 to set up his own online auction business.

Originally from Puglia, Elena has been looking after our buyers since 2018, and rules the office with a combination of doughnuts and brisk efficiency. Nobody is better at navigating DHL, FEDEX, DEFRA, HMRC and if you need a bow scooping out of a customs warehouse in Manila, she is the person you want. As far as hobbies go, perhaps the most glaring contrast is that, although a black belt in Tae Kwando, nobody could like Disney more.

Ralph is the man who takes all the superb photographs of the instruments that come through Amati. He is also in charge of coordinating the safe shipping of your instruments around the world.

Simon studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and now has a successful career as a professional violinist. He travels the world recording and performing with all manner of different ensembles and artists.
Over the years, he has also developed an expertise in stringed instruments. This knowledge, combined with his skills as a professional musician and his natural charm, make him a pleasure to work with.
