ADDISON (ADDIS), William Worked circa. 1650-1675 Moorfields, London UK. Viols and some violins on Amatisé model with thin golden-yellow varnish. An advertisement in the London Gazette of 1675 reads: ‘Lost Octob. 2. at night, out of a coach, between Billingsgate and Charing Cross, a black case with a new violin in it, made by William Addis in the Strand, this year 1675, with a stockmans bowe in it. Whoever can give notice of it to Mr. Carr at the Middle Temple-gate, shall be well rewarded’. William Addison / in Long Alley / over against Moorfields, 1670
