John Dilworth
ALTON, Robert Born 1881, died 1963 Brixton, London UK. Employed as a repairer in Birmingham, Leeds, St. Helens, Brixton, Bootle and Birkenhead. Finally settled in London. Author of Violin and Cello Building and Repairing (1946) which remains popular and influential with amateur makers. Violins on Stradivari, Guarneri, and personal models, with his own cooked varnish.
