Was originally a joiner. Copied Amati very cleverly. The varnish is frequently of amber colour.

Er war Sohn eines Schreiners und selbst Schreiner und, wie es im Sterberegister
zu Wechmar heisst: »besonders instrument macher«. Wahrscheinlich
war auch schon sein Vater Johann Philipp A. nebenbei Instrumentenmacher.
Von Beiden ist nichts Näheres bekannt. Georg Valentin A. war zwei Mal
verheirathet, in erster Ehe (1773) mit Maria Elisabeth geb. Fischer, von welcher
er sechs Kinder hatte, aber nur sein ältester Sohn widmete sich der Geigenmacherkunst
und brachte es darin zu einer Kunstfertigkeit. In seinem Trau- und
Todtenschein wird er auch als Mitnachbar und Vormundschaftsverwandter
aufgeführt und als Todesursache epidemisches Faulfieber angegeben.
