BOUSSU, Joseph Born 1703 Fourmies France, Worked circa. 1749-1780 Etterbeek, Brabant Belgium. Finely worked, if slightly mannered, interpretations of the Amati model in characteristic Flemish style, made without separate upper block. Deeply carved scroll with extended final turn and prominent eye; generally rather full arch. Good yellow-brown varnish. Violas and at least one cello of compact size. A decorated cittern extant branded and labelled Amsterdam 1771 implies that he was also active there. Several examples in the Musical Instruments Museum, Brussels.
