Pupil and son-in-law of Jacques Decante. Worked at Paris and Lyons 1855-1857 before returning to Charroux, where he worked under the sign ‘a la vielle bourbonnaise’. CAILHE, Jean Baptiste Born 1831 Charroux France. Pupil and son-in-law of Jacques Decante. Worked at Paris and Lyons 1855-1857 before returning to Charroux, where he worked under the sign ‘a la vielle bourbonnaise’. Like Decante, he principally made vielles (hurdy-gurdies), although a few violins exist with his name. Good workmanship but poor spirit varnish.
Willibald Leo Lütgendorff+
Schüler und Schwiegersohn von Jacques Decante, dessen Geschäft er 1858
übernahm und von Jenzat nach Charroux verlegte, nachdem er vorher von
1855—1857 in Paris und Lyon gearbeitet hatte. Er baute Leiern (Viellen)
nach den Modellen seines Hauses und hat ihnen eine gefälligere Form und
volleren Klang gegeben und auch den Saitenbezug verdoppelt. Er verwendet
einen Spirituslack eigener Mischung. Seine Fabrik führt den Schild »a la vielle
Bourbonaise«. Auf seinen Zetteln findet man ausser dem Namen seine zahlreichen
Auszeichnungen angeführt.
