CALOW, William Born 1847 Tansley, Derbyshire, died 1910 Nottingham UK. Collector and maker of double basses. Shop established in Sussex Street. Viol-shaped form with extended Guarneri- or Maggini-like soundholes and orange-brown oil varnish. About 20 produced. Some violins and cellos also known.
