Biographies

John Dilworth

CARLETTI, Natale Born 1904, d. 1979 Pieve di Cento Italy. Son and pupil of Carlo Carletti, above. Cellist; studied in Bologna Conservatoire before starting work with his father in 1918. Succeeding to the business in 1941, assisted by his brother Nullo. Cremonese modelling, based on the Stradivari ‘San Lorenzo’ violin (the pattern adopted by most of the Carlettis), with lemon-yellow to bright red varnish. Highly prolific, with some 200 cellos and 20 double basses to his name, and many different types of stringed instruments. Awarded gold medal in Cremona for a double bass 1949.
