John Dilworth
CARON Worked circa. 1770-1790 Versailles France. Held the appointment of luthier to Marie Antoinette. Rather broad Amatisé model. Neat workmanship and soft orange-yellow or brown varnish, although violas mostly varnished in dark brown. Ten-stringed theorbo inlaid with the initials of Marie Antoinette preserved in Musée de la Musique, Paris. Caron / Luthier de la Reine / Rue Royale / à Versailles 1775
