CASTAGNERI, Gian Paolo Worked circa. 1638-1653 Paris France. According to Vannes, two examples known from 1638 and 1653, with the same location given on the label as Andrea, above: ‘Palazzo di Soissons, Paris’. Possibly an ancestor of Andrea. No other information available. [Vannes]

Cecie Stainer

A maker from Cremona, who worked in Paris about 1630-62. He was one of the best Parisian makers of his time, his violins had a sweet though not powerful tone.
Instruments dated 1639 and 1662 are known.

Ein Italiener, angeblich sogar ein Cremoneser, der sich in Paris niederliess.
Wenn auch unbedeutend, darf er doch als einer der besten unter den damaligen
Pariser Geigenmachern gelten. Vidal erwähnt ihn nicht
einmal, Fétis dagegen kennt Geigen von ihm aus den
Jahren 1639 und 1662 und lobt ihren Silberklang,
wenn er auch den Mangel an Tonfülle beklagt. De
