CELONIATO, Giovanni Francesco Worked circa. 1720-1760 Turin, Italy. A very distinguished maker with a delicate model and very fine pale golden varnish. Elegantly sweeping soundholes, recalling Grancino, and small neat edgework. Head displays a characteristically slender pegbox topped by a very neatly cut but eccentric spiral. Presumed to be a pupil of Gioffredo Cappa whom he follows chronologically in Turin school, although Cappa spent his life outside the city in Saluzzo, and there is little that connects them technically and stylistically. Cellos of small model also delightful. Joannes Franciscus Celoniatus fecit / Taurini Anno 1734
