Biographies

The overview above is drawn from the following published accounts. Read them in the original:

John Dilworth+

CERIN, Marco Antonio Born 1774, died 1810 Venice Italy. Pupil of Anselmo Bellosio from around 1785. Attained guild membership in his own right in 1799 with a shop beneath the Torre dei Mori (Torre dell’Orologio) in Piazza San Marco. Influence of Bellosio strongly evident in some very graceful works with rich red-brown varnish, high arch, and elongated corners. Later work is less harmonious, with a stronger debt to Gofriller: stiff unfluted Stradivarian ‘f’s and thinner varnish. Marcus, Antonius, Cerin, Alumnus / Anselmii, Bellosii, Fecit Venetiæ, An. 1793 [Pio]

Eine prächtige Laute mit geschnitztem Männerkopf, bei der nur die Einlage
etwas plump erscheint, befindet sich in der kgl. Sammlung alter Musikinstrumente
in Berlin (No. 702). Der Name kann hier allerdings auch Perin statt
Cerin gelesen werden; auch die Jahreszahl möchte ich etwas anzweifeln.
