Life
Joseph Chardon (1843-1930) was born in Paris, France, on May 22, 1843, and died in 1930. He was the illegitimate son and pupil of Georges Chanot. He succeeded his fathers business in 1872. After Chanot's death, the business was renamed Chanot & Chardon, and later, Joseph became a partner, leading to the firm being known as Chardon et fils. Joseph Chardon exhibited two quartets of instruments in 1878, which were noted for being very well made with carefully chosen wood, earning him a bronze medal. He was also recognized at the 1900 Paris World Exhibition. Like Chanot, he traveled to many foreign countries to acquire old violins. He possessed numerous medals throughout his career.

1900 wieder gelegentlich der Pariser Weltausstellung ausgezeichnet. Auch er
bereiste viele fremde Länder, wie Chanot, um alte Geigen einzuhandeln. Er
wohnte zuerst Quai Malaquais und verlegte 1888 sein Geschäft in die Rue Poissonnière 22. Er besitzt zahlreiche Medaillen.
