DALLA COSTA, Pietro Antonio Worked circa. 1720-68 Treviso Italy. Born in Alba. Fine maker of the Venetian school. Very Amatisé work, although not as disciplined and highly finished as their inspiration. Delicate in form and generally with a low arch. Typical Venetian red varnish, although applied fairly thinly. (Mozart owned a Dalla Costa violin.) Unusually amongst makers of the time, he acknowledged the Amati Brothers on his label, stating either that the instrument was a copy of their work or using their example. Other makers tended to imply that they were pupils of the Amati. Pietro Antonio dalla Costa / fece in Treviso Anno 17..
