DANIELI, Giovanni Worked circa. 1745-1785 Padua Italy. Associated with Bagatella, although Bagatella seems to have had a low opinion of him, according to his essay on violin making published in Padua in 1782. Some instruments are jointly labelled. In fact, Danieli’s workmanship is delightful, with an especially well cut and harmonious scroll, drawn on a small scale but finished with immense taste and delicacy. The outline is very Amatisé, although soundholes a little extended and upright, and bears a rich, deep orange red varnish over a fine golden ground. Label sometimes carries the qualification ‘delectans.’ Joannes Danieli / fecit Patavii 1745 Danieli e Bagatella / fecerunt Patavii. Anno 17..
