DAVIDSON, Peter Born 1834 Speyside, Scotland UK, died 1901 Louisville Georgia USA. Emigrated to USA 1886. Good work with red varnish of his own recipe. Stradivari and Guarneri models. Author of The Violin: a concise Exposition of the general Principles of Construction, theoretically and practically treated (Pitman, 1871), and The Caledonian Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs, Slow Airs, Songs, Hornpipes, Waltzes, Polkas, etc. composed and arranged for the pianoforte, or violin and violoncello.

He was born at Speyside, and he lives now at Londsville, White County, Georgia, U.S.A. He was only an amateur maker, but made very fair instruments. He published “The Violin : Its Construction Theoretically and Practically Treated,” a very interesting but wholly unreliable work. Davidson was an excise officer, and a bookworm.
