John Dilworth+

DAY, John Born 1830, died 1905 London UK. Violinist and amateur maker. Copies of his own Guarneri del Gesù violin. John Day. Londoni. Mus. Doc. / Violinist in Her Majesty’s / Private Band, fecit / Anno 1852

William Meredith Morris+

He copied the Italian instruments closely, and succeeded in producing a good tone.

Cecie Stainer+

b. March 7, 1830; d. at his residence, 50, Gloucester Street, Belgrave Road, S.W., November 2, 1905. An amateur maker in London. Was a good violin player. Devoted himself to reproducing the perfect tone, as well as form, of the Cremona violins, and is said to have succeeded; a copy of a Guarneri del Jesu being especially mentioned as a magnificent violin.

Willibald Leo Lütgendorff+

ursprünglich Violin-Virtuose, Schüler von Ch. Beriot und Mitglied der
kgl. Hauscapelle, verwendete jahrelanges Studium auf den Geigenbau und
brachte es darin zu so seltener Meisterschaft, dass seinen Geigen, die er jedoch
nie für den Handel bestimmt und nie verkauft hat, u. A. von John Broadhouse
(Violins, old & new) nachgerühmt wird, dass sie den besten Stradivari-Geigen
an Tonschönheit gleich kämen (?).
