DE COMBLE, Ambroise Worked circa. 1730-1787 Tournay France. Cited by the Hill brothers in their life of Stradivari as one of the earliest imitators of Stradivari. In this period the Stainer and, to a lesser extent, Amati pattern was dominant throughout Europe. His work shows all the innovations of Stradivari, with flat arching, broad-winged soundholes, and an appropriate outline. Work a little coarse by comparison.
