Schüler von Anton Sprenger, bei dem er sieben Jahre blieb; später war er zwei Jahre als Reparateur bei Lorenz Kriner in Stuttgart und machte sich 1878 in Ulm selbständig. Er baut nach Stradivari und verwendet einen röthlichgelben Lack.
