DYER, J. Edwin Born 1897, d. after 1950 Toronto Canada Active 1916-1950. Self-taught, guided at first entirely by E. Heron-Allen’s Violin Making As It Was and Is. Gained the support of Jascha Heifetz but continued in full-time employment as railwayman. Small production; only 23 violins and two violas up until 1945; no cellos. Very proficient work on Stradivari model; neat and well-regulated. High reputation in Canada.
