According to Henley, following Lütgendorff, this is fine work of the ‘vieux Paris’ school, on an Amatisé model with coarsely-cut scroll and red-brown varnish. Some instruments branded on back with fleur de lys. Vannes states that this is the same individual as Jean Frebinet, above, although the facsimile label in Lütgendorff appears to read ‘Frebrunet’. A maker in Paris about 1750-60. His violins show carefully finished work, with a yellow-brown oil varnish of good effect. In a violin was the label: “Joannes Frebrunet, 1760.”

Seine Arbeit ist recht gut und mit der von Pierray zu vergleichen. Er verwandte einen guten, gelbbraunen Öllack. Eine Violine von ihm aus dem Jahre 1760 besitzt dasConservatorium in Paris. Im Selhof’schen Versteigerungsverzeichniss (Hag 1759) wird eine Geige von J. B. Frebine mit der Jahreszahl 1751 angeführt — zweifellos ein Werk von Frébrunet. Sein Zettel enthält meist nur den Namen ohne Ort und Datum. Er soll ausser in Paris auch in Bordeaux gearbeitet haben.
