GAILLARD, Charles b. Mirecourt, Worked circa. 1851-1880 Paris France. Violin and bow maker. Son of Louis Gaillard, below. First apprentice of Gand in Paris. Established there independently, initially in the Faubourg Poissonnière, and from 1865 at 20 rue Notre-Dame de Rouvrance. Teacher of Dugad. Fine work in the Gand style, some modelled on Guarneri. Varnished generally without shading or artificial ageing; thin textured orange-brown colour. Small violas notable (back length: 39cm; 153/8”). Bows branded: GAILLARD PARIS.
