GUDI, H. c.1700-1726 Cremona Italy. A single viola d’amore with this label cited in most sources, but there is no known archival evidence of his existence. Both Henley and Vannes indicate violins ‘remarkable but rare’. No work currently known. Hieronimo Gudi / da Cremona 1717

A maker in Cremona in 1727. A very beautiful viola d’amore of his is known, the belly made of good pine, the back and sides of beautifully marked maple; the carved neck ends in a woman’s head with eyes bandaged, it has 17 pegs; the varnish is light, a golden yellow colour, and the work is carefully finished.
